HINOHIKARI ヒノヒカリ rice is well known for its rich taste, despite the grain small. It has a thick and chewy texture. It was originated in Kyushu, Japan which they eat it on a daily basis and it is popular in restaurants. HINO means “salute”, alluding to the region of Kyushu in ancient times, and HIKARI means “sun”. Hinohikari rice is a hybrid of Koshihikari and Koganabare rice. Since 1989 the amount of land being used for Hinohikari rice cultivation has steadily increased being the third largest after Koshihikari and Hitomebore rice.
